Forgotten 4 Letter Word
- GOOD KNIGHT
Forgotten 4 Letter Word
At dusk, recluse in my home
Not wanting to write verse, or even a
psalm
I try to sleep, pillow clutched to my head
I remember a four letter word I dread
In mist, shadows incubate
though they are but some road
a path, frightening to some, others abode
but one that we can not forsake
I pray to the Lord, my soul to take
Names like Italstud72071
Scream words of hate
and think it's fun
But although many have forgotten the name,
people are dying all the same.
So as you lay your head to rest
Please, I ask you, do your best
Remember the word, recall the faces
who no longer laugh, but fill empty spaces.
GOOD KNIGHT
UPON A SILVER STEED HE
RODE,
TO DISTANT LANDS TO FIND HIS BRIDE
HE DID THIS FOR HIS LAND
WAS BARREN.
NOT BUT A SINGLE BLOSSOM
BLOOMS
HE FOUND HIS MATE AMONGST
PARTY-GOERS
AT THE BALL.
HE, HIS ARMOUR WHITE,
THE
LIGHT OF GOD SHONE BEHIND HIS HEAD,
DID BECKON HER TO FOLLOW
AY, BUT SO MANY HAVE
MISTAKEN A STREETLAMP AS A RAY OF THE SON,
AND MANY MORE A DONKEY A
MIGHTY STEED
SO IT WAS FOR THE FAIR
MAIDEN.
HE, THE GOOD KNIGHT
WAS NOT DRESSED IN ARMOR
WHITE,
BUT BLACK.
'TIS ONLY THE LIMESTONE
FROM HIS RIDE
THAT LAID UPON HIS BREAST
THE MAIDEN, BLINDED BY HER
EMPTINESS, REFUSED TO SEE TILL IT WAS LATE.
THE MORNING SUN AROSE IN
TIME
FOR A SINGLE BLOSSOM
TO BE TRAMPLED,
STREETLAMP SNUFFED OUT AND
THE GOOD KNIGHT WENT BLACK
SO ALONE DOES THE MAIDEN
SIT, WAITING FOR ANOTHER KNIGHT
BUT THE DAYS ARE GROWING
LONGER
AND THERE ISN'T ONE IN SIGHT.
